Museum staff took part in an international Erasmus+ programme

Museum Life / 16 October 2026

War Museum guides Kateryna Kukhar and Kostiantyn Rodchenko took part in an international study visit to North Macedonia as part of the Erasmus+ project “The Future of Europe’s Past”.

The programme focuses on developing youth work through non-formal education, active citizenship and fostering a culture of remembrance. Participants from Germany, Macedonia, Poland and Ukraine had an opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss modern approaches to working with young people and explore how history education can help young people better understand the past, reflect on contemporary social processes and participate responsibly in the life of their communities. Particular attention was paid to engaging young people in reflecting on difficult chapters of history, developing critical thinking, promoting inclusivity and creating accessible and engaging educational formats.

An important focus of the discussions was the role of youth centres and cultural institutions in creating an environment for dialogue, mutual understanding and the preservation of historical memory. Participants also discussed the current challenges facing young people in today’s world, including the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

Participation in the project provided an opportunity to exchange practices with European partners, explore new approaches to non-formal education and identify opportunities for the further development of the Museum’s educational programmes and engagement with young audiences.

We sincerely thank MEMOS, VCS Scopje and LRE Poland for the opportunity to take part in the international programme. The experience and knowledge gained will certainly be applied in the work of the War Museum.
