To mark Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Motherland Monument has been illuminated with the colours of the audiovisual light art installation The Future Remembers. The installation explores the power of memory, the connection between generations and our responsibility for the future. The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, in partnership with the War Museum and with the patronage of Autostrada.
The audiovisual installation was presented at the War Museum on 20 August. Speakers included Tetiana Berezhna, Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture of Ukraine; Yurii Savchuk, Director General of the War Museum; and Pavlo Stepanets, CEO and representative of the Autostrada Group of Companies. The installation was presented by Ukrainian artist and lighting designer Mykola Kabluka, founder and art director of Expolight.
The illuminated Motherland Monument can be seen every evening from 22 August to 1 September, from 21:00 to 23:00.
Over the course of five minutes, symbols come to life across the monument:
roots, representing memory and origins;
spirals, symbolising the flow of living time;
water, representing purification;
wings, symbolising freedom;
stars and constellations, representing all of us who shape the future together.
