"The Last Battle of the Insurgents: An Ideological Victory"

On April 10, 2025, at 14:00, the Main Building of the War Museum will host a public lecture titled "The Last Battle of the Insurgents: An Ideological Victory" dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the armed clash between the last Ukrainian Insurgent Army combat unit and KGB troops in the Ternopil region.

The event aims to highlight the activities of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, its struggle for the restoration of Ukraine’s statehood, and its prolonged resistance against the Soviet regime.

Historians Lesia Onyshko and Ihor Bihun will outline the key milestones of the existence of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and reconstruct the chronology of the last known battles with Soviet special services in the 1960s, particularly on April 14, 1960. They will discuss the insurgents’ underground resistance until 1991 and the historical and ideological consequences of this struggle.

The illustrative materials will include unique photographs from the Yavoriv Photo Archive of the UPA, graphic works by artist Nil Khasevych from the Museum’s collection, and footage from documentary films.

  • Lesia Onyshko – PhD in History, Scientific Secretary of the National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity;

  • Ihor Bihun – PhD in History, Officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
