On April 12, 2025, at 11:00, the War Museum will host a memorial event dedicated to the photographer, documentarian, military reporter, participant of the Revolution of Dignity, and senior sergeant of the reconnaissance unit of the strike UAV complex "CODE 9.2" of the 92nd Assault Brigade "Ivan Sirko" Ruslan Hanushchak (call signs "Photographer" and "Ostap").
Ruslan Hanushchak was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity, documenting events on Independence Square. The video materials he recorded are used as evidence in pre-trial investigations and court cases concerning crimes committed during the Revolution of Dignity. These videos were also included in the film Ukraine. Maidan. Reloading.
In 2014, Ruslan volunteered to join the "Azov" Battalion as a military journalist within the unit’s press service. He documented combat operations in Ilovaisk, Shyrokyne, Hranitne, Berdiansk, and Marinka and conducted interviews with soldiers. In 2016, he released a documentary film about the war in Donbas, Two Days in Ilovaisk, which depicts events from August 2014. He was also the author of the film Brother for Brother, about Georgian volunteers, showcasing battles in Shyrokyne on the coast of the Sea of Azov in the spring of 2015.
At the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, Ruslan Hanushchak worked as a military correspondent and cameraman, covering combat operations in the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. Later, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a serviceman in the "CODE 9.2" unit of the 92nd Assault Brigade "Ivan Sirko."
On January 11, 2025, he was killed in combat in the Kursk region.
The event will be attended by representatives of the Command of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Ruslan Hanushchak’s sister Iryna Hanushchak-Forostian (director of the FRAC Charitable Foundation), other family members, the commander of the 3rd Army Corps Andriy Biletskyi, director of the Maidan Museum Ihor Poshyvailo, journalists Andriy Tsapliyenko, Ihor Zakharenko, and Larysa Pokalchuk, representative of the Ruslan Hanushchak Documentary Foundation Kateryna Vyshnevska, comrades-in-arms, colleagues, and friends.
