Every day at 9 a.m., Ukraine pauses for a minute of silence to remember those who gave their lives defending the country. But what do we actually hear in those 60 seconds?
We invite you to a curator-led tour of the exhibition “This Could Be Silence” with representatives of the NGO Vshanuй — Veronika Mol and Kateryna Datsenko.
We will explore the history of the Minute of Silence, from its origins to the contemporary Ukrainian practice, how this ritual has evolved and acquired new meaning, and why a shared act of remembrance helps us preserve collective memory today.
We will also focus on the central part of the exhibition — 470 photographs of the sky above the graves of fallen Ukrainian Defenders, each accompanied by their name. Every photograph tells an individual story, while together they become a reflection on the scale of loss and the power of remembrance.
And we will try to hear what remains between the words.
