On 23 August, the annual National Prayer Breakfast was held under the patronage of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This year, the event took place on the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine, on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence.
As in previous years, the Prayer Breakfast brought together senior Ukrainian officials, representatives of the clergy, service members, chaplains, families of fallen Heroes, as well as representatives of charitable organisations and youth leaders. More than 400 distinguished guests from around the world also attended, including heads of state and government from countries allied with Ukraine, among them President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and Prime Minister of Estonia Kristen Michal, as well as the 48th Vice President of the United States Mike Pence and representatives of the US Senate and House of Representatives.
For the National Prayer Breakfast, the War Museum created an exhibition dedicated to the persecution of churches and religious communities in Ukraine by the Soviet authorities and Putin’s regime. The exhibition attracted considerable interest among participants. Among those who visited it was Ukraine’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha.
This was the third time the Museum had participated in the National Prayer Breakfast. The Museum was represented by a delegation headed by Director General Yurii Savchuk. We pray for Ukraine and for a just peace, together with our people and people of goodwill around the world.
