World Central Kitchen Supports Kyiv During Blackouts

Museum Life / 20 February 2026

The humanitarian mission World Central Kitchen has established approximately 25 distribution points across the capital, providing free hot meals to everyone in need. This assistance is aimed at supporting residents who are unable to cook due to russian shelling and electricity shortages. The organization’s volunteers distribute thousands of servings of borsch and other hot dishes, helping Kyiv residents endure cold days and nights without power.

The Museum team visited the “Parkovi Ozera” (“Park Lakes”) Residential Complex, where people could receive hot food at a State Emergency Service of Ukraine “Point of Invincibility” during blackouts on freezing evenings. Two volunteers, Nina and Olha, shared that they work in the tourism industry. However, following another russian attack, they joined the humanitarian mission to find a sense of purpose and help others; now, they gladly serve hot borsch to all those in need.

World Central Kitchen has been operating in Ukraine since the early days of russia’s full-scale invasion. By partnering with local restaurants and foundations, the organization supports IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons), persons with a physical disability, and residents of affected areas.

Often, when heading to various locations, we repeatedly encounter World Central Kitchen on the ground.
